JADO Breakfast Bytes - Cryptocurrency and Jersey – a match made in heaven?

After the success of the panel discussion at the end of last year, we are delighted to introduce JADO's "Breakfast Bytes" season, which kicks off with "Cryptocurrency and Jersey – a match made in heaven?" at 8.15am on 12th April 2018 at ASL, 2-6 Church Street. Chis Griffin, Gus Fraser & Simon Allen (please see bios below) make up our panel for a hour based discussion which will explore what cryptocurrency means for Jersey and how to maximise the opportunities at the same time as mitigating risk.

Chris Griffen – Carey Olsen - Chris Griffin is a partner in Carey Olsen's corporate and investment funds team, and spearheads the firm's digital asset practice. Last year, Chris acted on the launch of CoinShares Fund I, a venture capital fund denominated in Ether which invests into ICOs and last December he acted on the launch of ARC Reserve Currency, Jersey's first ICO.

Aonghus Fraser - Blockchain Jersey - Gus is a technology evangelist and leader with broad experience from his 20 years in senior roles as Chief Technology Officer for a number of organisations from bootstrapped startups to enterprise consultancy organisations. He is a regular speaker at conferences on various technology and leadership topics including Identity, Cybersecurity and Blockchain. Gus is frequently asked to write for publications; Is the end nigh for the Channel Islands? Investments and funds in the age of Cryptocurrencies

Simon Allen – Global Advisers - An English-solicitor, trained in London, in private practise within the financial services sector in Jersey 2006 – 2013. Engaged within the Policy Division of the Jersey Financial Services Commission 2013 – 2015, working on a number of important policy initiatives. Undertook a variety of consultancy assignments in industry in 2016. Since February 2017, serving as General Counsel to Global Advisors (Holdings) Limited, a challenging and extremely fulfilling role in a business at the very forefront of the exploitation of investment opportunities in digital assets, in particular, in connection with crypto-currencies.

JADO CPD -London Capital Markets and Using Jersey to Access Them - Directors Refresher and Update

This will be two presentations covering in total 40 minutes, followed by up to 20 minutes Q & A. The session will cover a variety of topics  including:

  • Refresher on the IPO process and timescales
  • Becoming investor ready‎ - what investors are looking for
  • Recent trends and case studies
  • Why and when to use a Jersey holding company
  • Key accounting and tax issues
  • Recent changes to AIM rules
  • Corporate governance - examples of the good, the bad and the ugly
  • Success factors

The session will be hosted by Robin Stevens - Head of Capital Markets for Crowe Clark Whitehill in London and Gavin Wilkins Client Relationship Director and Head of Intermediaries at Minerva.

JFSC Session-  Supervisory risk data return

The JFSC are in the midst of organising a session over the course of the next two weeks to enable questions to be raised and further guidance to be provided.

The session will be presented by Caroline Morgan and Melanie Hoey from the JFSC  Financial Crime Policy team who will host the session.

Lunch with Guest Speaker James Quarmby

We are delighted to host a special lunchtime event with a UK guest speaker James Quarmby who will present on 'The increasingly hostile civil and criminal penalty regimes and how they will affect Jersey businesses and clients'.

The event will feature a two course lunch and presentation by James Quarmby. James is a specialist in tax planning, wealth structuring and asset protection for international private clients. He was named 'private client lawyer of the year' in the 2017 Wealth Briefing awards and frequently appears in the press and broadcast media

The presentation will be given over a lunch and is free to JADO members and £30 for non-members who are very much welcomed.

There will also be the option to book tables for this event.  Why not put together a table of 8 or 10 and join James and the JADO team on the 17th May.
